There are many great things about living in Atlanta, Georgia, with beautiful weather, wonderful scenery, and a vibrant culture just being a few of them. As an auto insurance agent though, I can tell you what many residents do not find great about our city, and that is the high insurance rate. According to recent news articles by Cov News and the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Atlanta has one of the highest auto insurance rates in the country. Currently, it stands at $1,263 per year. While there is no doubt that it is quite a figure, as an insurance agent, I can tell you why your money is well spent.
Car Accident Rate
Simply put, according to the AAA, Atlanta has one of the highest car accident rates in the country. The only cities that have reported more crashes are New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The importance of protecting yourself and your vehicle during a car accident should not be underestimated. With good car insurance, you’ll be able to do just that.
High Car Theft Rate
There are few auto mishaps worse than getting your vehicle stolen. Unfortunately, Atlanta, Georgia’s car theft rate is much higher than the U.S. Average. City-Data reports that there are a 1,200 car thefts per 100,000 residents in Atlanta, while the U.S. average is only 669.7 per 100,00 residents. While this is a contributing factor to the high insurance rate, protecting your car with the right insurance is much better than losing your investment if your car is stolen.
While the news is pretty disappointing regarding how much residents pay for insurance, I also believe that such a high figure isn’t set in stone. There are ways to reduce your car insurance costs. Consider a higher deducible, drive a low-profile vehicle, maintain a positive driving record, and to inquire about discounts – there are usually many available.
